Gallery Effects and its associated files are provided in compressed format on four disks. None of the files are usable until you decompress them with the Installer.
This automated installation process requires a hard disk. To install the Gallery Effects application, the SuperPaint Effects (which are used by Gallery Effects), and the sample image, you’ll need at least 2.9 megabytes of space on your hard disk. To install all the files on all 4 disks, you’ll need at least 4.9 megabytes of space on your hard disk.
Follow these instructions to install Gallery Effects on your hard disk:
1. Insert the disk labelled “Disk 1.”
2. Double-click the Aldus Installer/Utility icon to start the Installer program.
Four overlapping windows appear on your screen:
Installer Main Window—shows the file groups you can install.
Installer History—displays a record of the installer status for the session.
Aldus Installer Diagnostics—is used when the Diagnostics button is selected.
Read Me—provides on-screen instructions for running the Installer.
For now, we’re only interested in the Installer Main Window, which displays seven file groups that can be installed:
Gallery Effects DA—will install the Gallery Effects desk accessory, a GE Pouch Pouch folder containing the preferences file (GE Prefs), a set of SuperPaint effects in a Classic Art SP folder, and an Image Controls folder that contains the Brightness & Contrast controls as well as the Color Balance controls.
Gallery Effects Application—will install the Gallery Effects program, a GE Pouch folder containing the preferences file (GE Prefs), a set of SuperPaint effects in a Classic Art SP folder, and an Image Controls folder that contains the Brightness & Contrast controls as well as the Color Balance controls.
Digital Darkroom Effects—will install a Classic Art DD folder containing the effects to be used with Digital Darkroom.
SuperPaint Effects—will install a Classic Art SP folder containing the effects to be used with SuperPaint 3.0.
Photoshop Effects—will install a Classic Art PS folder containing the effects to be used with Photoshop 1.0 or 2.0.
Sample Image—will install a color sample image.
3. Select the file groups you want to install or the click Select All button to select all the files. Gallery Effects Application and Sample Image are the default selections.
4. After selecting the file groups, click Install to proceed with the installation.
If you selected Digital Darkroom Effects, SuperPaint Effects or Photoshop Effects, a dialog box displays a scrolling list of the effects to be installed as plug-in filters for use within the selected program.
5. If the Effects dialog box appears, select the individual effects you want to install (Shift-click to select more than one file or click Select All to select all the files). Click OK.
6. In the “Install files” dialog box, the default name for the product installation folder is “Gallery Effects,” but you can enter a new name in the “Install in folder” text box.
7. Select the drive on which the files are to be installed.
8. Click Install to proceed with the installation of the files on your hard disk (or click Cancel to cancel and close this dialog box without installing any files).
Depending on which files you selected, you will be prompted to insert “Disk 2,” “Disk 3,” and “Disk 4.”
When each of the disks have been read and the files decompressed, the installation process is complete.
A Folder called “Gallery Effects” (or whatever name you’ve given it) will have been
created on your hard disk. This contains the file groups (folders) and the individual files you’ve selected.
